LA MIRADA -- Vanguard University’s men’s basketball team has a new

coach, but the results were similar Saturday night as host Biola

applied a 97-58 Golden State Athletic Conference loss on the Lions,

now led by Athletic Director Bob Wilson.

James Hartman posted 23 points and Josh Pierson had 17 points, but

it was not enough to offset five Biola players with double-figure

scoring. Vanguard falls to 5-16, 1-9 in the GSAC. Biola improves to

15-6, 5-5.

On the women’s side, it was another matter as the Vanguard Lions

had the five players scoring in twin digits, led by Lacey Mills’ 17

points, including five three-point shots. The result: A 79-76

overtime decision for Vanguard, which improved to 16-7, 11-1 in the

GSAC.

Jennifer Wilcox had 12 points for Vanguard and Cecilia Josefsson,

Robbin Dittenbir and Courtney McKinney each had 11 points. Wilcox was

the game’s rebounding leader with 10 and Dittenbir had seven assists.
