Newport Harbor High’s girls frosh-soph water polo team continued

its success by winning the Newport Invitational in its own pool

Saturday with a 10-1 victory over Fountain Valley in the

championship.

Ashling Taylor led the Sailors with three goals against the Barons

with Amanda Barto and Cali Manderino each tallying two goals. Marisa

Hertsberg, Kali Lucas and Melissa Wheeler each tallied one goal for

the Sailors, who are now 19-0 with one Sea View League game remaining

against Foothill on Wednesday.

In the semifinals earlier Saturday, Newport defeated San Clemente,

11-2, with Taylor and Manderino each collecting three goals with

Barto and Leah Robertson notching two apiece and Lucas finding the

back of the net once.

The Sailors beat Peninsula Friday, 8-3, behind two goals by

Taylor, Robertson and Barto and single tallies by Lucas and

Manderino.
