went into a second overtime before posting a 2-0 victory over host

Costa Mesa Friday in a boys soccer match which was originally rained

out on Wednesday.

“We hustled and did everything right,” said Costa Mesa Coach

Eugene Day. “But we could not finish.

The Mustangs went with just 10 players, and in the final two

minutes, had just nine players on the field, including lone senior

Alex Mulhern, who distinguished himself in his final game for Mesa.

Santa Ana finishes 9-2-1 as it awaits the playoffs.

The Mustangs bow out, 0-19-1, 0-12 in league.

Sage Hill falls in playoff for third

* GIRLS HOOPS: Sage Hill School’s girls basketball team dropped

a 37-30 decision at Brethren Christian in Huntington Beach in a

third-place Academy League playoff, which puts Sage Hill (12-7, 5-6)

in a wait-and-see mode for the upcoming CIF playoffs, and sends

Brethren Christian (11-16, 6-5) into the playoffs with the No. 3

berth from the league.

Sage Hill, led by Carrie Clark’s 18 points, had a 24-17 halftime

advantage before Brethren Christian made a strong second-half run,

taking advantage of Sage Hill’s lack of experience.

Pirates sweep past Riverside, Santa Ana

* TRACK AND FIELD: Orange Coast College swept Riverside and

Santa Ana in a community college men’s and women’s track and field

meet Friday afternoon at Santa Ana College.

The men edged Riverside, 147-146, with Santa Ana finishing with 38

points.

The women posted a 166-122 victory over Riverside. Santa Ana

followed with 23 points.
