A big happy birthday to Magna

Happy birthday to Magna Schley, a Costa Mesa resident turning 90

years young on Wednesday. In 1974, while working as the head

dietitian at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, she started a Mobile

Meals program with the help of the Soroptimist of the Harbor Area. As

it began to grow, she asked the FISH organization for help in

supplying more drivers.

The FISH Mobile Meals Program now serves more than 200 meals a day

to homebound people incapable of shopping and cooking for themselves.

FISH partners with Hoag Hospital to provide meals appropriate to

their clients’ needs, including diabetic, low sodium and regular

meals.

The meals provided are not frozen meals. They are nutritiously

prepared and delivered daily (even on holidays) by volunteer drivers.

Schley will celebrate her birthday with more than 190 family,

friends and longtime colleagues from across the nation. In place of

gifts, she requests that donations be made to FISH Harbor Area Inc.

at P.O. BOX 15464, Newport Beach, CA 92659. Donations are tax

deductible.

Happy birthday, Magna, and what a great legacy you have given to

our community.
