Vanguard women top The Master’s, 66-59

Vanguard University’s women’s basketball team improved to 19-8, 14-2

in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 66-59 victory over The

Master’s College Saturday.

Robbin Dittenbir led the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds, 11

defensively, and Courtney McKinney added 12 points.

* In the men’s game, Vanguard was a 70-59 winner behind the

double-digit scoring of James Hartman, Tim Burnette, Conrad Adamczak

and Josh Pierson.

Hartman, who led all scorers with 23 points, hit 11 of 17 from the field.

Burnette was 6 for 6 and Adamczak was 6 for 9 from the field, each

netting 13 points. Pierson, 4 for 7 from the field, had 10 points.

Vanguard improved to 6-19, 2-12 in the GSAC. The Master’s fell to

14-10, 4-9.

College softball

Vanguard University swept host Cal State San Bernardino Saturday,

posting 9-5 and 5-2 wins. The Lions, 6-1-1, got solid pitching from

starters Marciea Ball and Krystal Keltner.

Lisa Jackson and Celina Camarilo both went 3-for-4 and hit

back-toback home runs in the seventh innings.

In the second game, Camarillo was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and

Jackson was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Track and field

Vanguard Univesity had three athletes with qualifying marks for

the Indoor Nationals at Azusa Pacific Saturday.

Jenny Thune went 2:22.79 in the women’s 800 meters. Mikael Larsson

went 2:32.71 in the men’s 1,000, and Tony Magana went 15:38.44 in the

5,000.

Women’s tennis

UC Irvine’s women’s tennis team lost a 6-1 nonconference decision

to visiting San Diego State Saturday. Sophomore Anna Bentzer earned

the lone point for the Anteaters with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Katja

Karrento in the No. 3 singles slot. UCI fell to 3-4 overall.
