Vanguard University’s baseball team dropped a 7-2 Golden State

Athletic Conference decision to visiting Point Loma Nazarene Tuesday

afternoon as the winners pounded out a 13-hit attack to drop Vanguard

to 8-4, 2-1 in the GSAC.

The verdict came just one day after Cal State Dominguez Hills

pinned a 7-3 nonconference loss on the Lions Monday.

Vanguard struck for two runs in the first inning on Tuesday, but

saw the lead vanish in the fourth when Point Loma struck for four

runs.

Starting pitcher Joe Carnahan had a run-scoring double in the

first inning, and Scott Martin had a two-bagger. Robert Cruz and

Jason Searle each went 2 for 4.

Jud Richards went 3 for 5 with a home run, two runs scored and two

RBI for Point Loma, which played errorless defense.

In Monday’s game, Vanguard was shut down on four hits. Matt

Tisthammer went 2 for 3 with a solo home run.

Cal State Dominguez Hills offset Vanguard’s first-inning tally

with five in the second and finished with a dozen hits and errorless

defensive play.
