Orange Coast College has suffered some blows so far this year in the

form of budget trimming by the state, but the school has made out

well in recent weeks.

It was one thing when the college received a $2-million luxury

yacht from Milan Panic, the former Yugoslavian president who founded

Costa Mesa-based ICN Pharmaceuticals Inc.

But what really takes the cake is, two weeks later, the school

received -- yes, this is true -- a 36-acre island off British

Columbia.

Imagine the possibilities.

The students can create their own tribes, perform survival of the

fittest tests and vote weaker tribe members off the island.

Or they can perform nuclear tests, since they wouldn’t harm the

United States.

Or they can create a prison for the most dangerous criminals and

masterminds.

Or they can prove that college is just one long vacation.

Just watch out for that numbskull Gilligan and Tom Hanks’ silent

volleyball friend.

Oh, and bring a cell phone and some food and water.
