Henry’s gives $10,000 for playground toys

Henry’s Marketplace announced Thursday that it will donate $10,000

to purchase playground equipment, on the eve of the store’s grand

opening.

Henry’s announced it will give the funds to the Costa Mesa

Community Foundation to purchase equipment for Ketchum-Libolt Park.

The grand opening of the healthier-foods market at 3030 Harbor

Blvd. is set for 7:45 a.m. today. Mayor Karen Robinson is expected to

cut the ribbon on the store.

“Because Costa Mesa is growing rapidly, city funding is not always

available to fully cover all the projects that our expanding

community requests and desires,” said Mary Hornbuckle, the community

foundation’s vice chair. “We are so pleased with Henry’s

Marketplace’s donation.”

The community foundation, formed in 1998, has raised funding for a

number of projects. Construction on the Westside park is set to begin

later this year.

Newport Beach man still on state corrections board

Gov. Gray Davis reappointed 57-year-old Donald R. Sheetz of

Newport Beach to the Board of Corrections.

Sheetz, a member since 2001, is active in the Leadership Cabinet

for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Professional Services

Reserve. He also directs the Orange County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s

Assn. and chairs the Homeland Security Advisory Council for

California, Region 1.

The Board of Corrections works with city and county officials to

develop and maintain standards for the construction and operation of

local jails and juvenile detention facilities.
