Slobounov, Milmine Big West champions

UC Irvine’s Anton Slobounov and Melissa Milmine swept to diving

championships at the Big West Conference Finals Friday at Belmont

Plaza, Slobounov dominated the men’s 3-meter competition with 493.95

points, and Milmine leading a 1-2 UCI finish in the women’s 1-meter.

They helped the Anteaters finish third to the University of

Pacific in both categories.

Evan Mitchell and Allen Moheimani went 4-5 behind Slobounov, and

Milmine was backed up by Frannie Brittle (second) and Jennifer Marcus

(seventh).

Phil Garcia led UCI’s men with a second in the 100-yard freestyle

(44.89).

Kevin Olson and Robert Noh went 3-4 in the 200 butterfly with

times of 1:51.10 and 1:52.29, respectively, and Noh was fifth in the

1,650 free (15:53.43).

Attila Szilagyi and Brian Kim were 4-7 in the 200 breaststroke

with 2:04.66 and 2:05.66, respectively, and Hazem Amr was seventh in

the 100 free (46.91).

The quartet of Garcia, Chong, O’Grady and Amr was third in the 400

free relay (3:05.80).

In women’s swimming, 200 individual medley champion Lara

Bjargardottir was second in the 200 breast (2:18.10) and Alexis

Sheridan was second in the 1,650 free (16:54.66).

Semah Zavareh was fourth in the 1,650 (17:08.22), Kim Do was

fourth in the 200 back (2:03.15), Sara Showalter was fifth in the 200

breast (2:21.10) and Molly Donelan was eighth in the 200 fly

(2:09.70).

The foursome of Bjargardottir, Economides, Baker and Do was third

in the 400 free relay (3:32.06).
