VISION STATEMENT

Planning commissioners will consider tonight whether a “Vision

Statement” prepared by members of the citizen General Plan Advisory

Committee should be adopted into the official general plan update

documents.

Members of the subcommittee that created the document have fought

to have it officially adopted. Some have said they were under the

impression all along that they were creating the statement for

official adoption by the city.

City staff members have countered that they never intended to have

the City Council or Planning Commission vote to officially adopt the

statement. They worry that the adoption process could cause the

document to be diluted and changed in ways that drafters never

intended.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Planning Department staff have suggested two options for planning

commissioners: They can either “adopt” the Vision Statement, or they

can “endorse” it. Either way, it will likely go before the City

Council.
