Anteaters fall to Glory

LONG BEACH -- The UC Irvine women’s basketball team stayed with Long

Beach State in the first half. But the 49ers outscored the Anteaters,

54-27, in the second half, as Long Beach senior Glory Johnson scored

a career-high 30 points to lead her team to a 97-65 victory Thursday

night.

It is the most points allowed by the Anteaters this season and is

also the largest margin of defeat this year.

Long Beach State (131-4, 10-6 in the Big West) secured third place

in the Big West Conference. UCI ended its regular season at 16-11,

9-7 in the Big West for fourth place. The Anteaters will face Idaho,

the fifth seed, in the Big West Tournament, Wednesday night at 8:30

at the Anaheim Convention Center. The ‘Eaters were the seventh seed

at last year’s conference tournament.

Johnson recorded her conference-leading 10th double-double of the

season with 10 rebounds.

UCI was led by freshman Lauren Yadon’s second career double-double

with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Kristen Green tallied

16 points and nine boards, while Christina Callaway added 14 points.

The Anteaters, who average just 14.2 turnovers per game, had 20

turnovers in the game and shot just 21.2% (7 of 33) in the second

half.
