LAM receives new art books

The Laguna Art Museum is the recipient of the Nancy Dustin Wall

Moure Library of California Art.

The collection of more than 1,000 volumes on California art and

art history was donated to the museum by Moure in honor of the 85th

anniversary of the Laguna Beach Art Assn.

The collection includes landmark books acknowledged as having made

a contribution to the history of art as well as rare books and

little-known classics.

This working library, painstakingly built over the last 30 years

by Moure while she was working on numerous art historical books and

exhibitions for regional institutions, reflects her tastes and

predilections and is, therefore, particularly strong on art before

1945.

The acquisition also includes Moure’s collection of 6,500 slides,

rare exhibition brochures. Moure, a long time supporter of Laguna Art

Museum, has made substantial donations to the Museum’s Permanent

Collection and Library in the past.

In a press release Moure said “my real reason for giving this

collection to Laguna Art Museum is out of thanks for the Museum’s

long-standing commitment to pre-1945 California art and because of

the Museum’s location at the center of Orange County. ... It is there

that much of the research on pre-1945 art is being done and this

collection will reduce the trips local researchers will have to make

to the larger libraries in L.A.”

Playhouse recognized

The Laguna Playhouse’s presentation of “The Spitfire Grill” has

been named Best Musical Production of 2002 at the seventh annual OC

Weekly Awards in February.

The West Coast Premiere production of James Valcq and Fred Alley’s

musical also was recognized in a simultaneous ceremony in Hollywood.

The 26th annual “Robby” Awards named Raymond Kent Best Set Designer

for his work on “The Spitfire Grill” and Michael Edwards Best

Supporting Actor in a Drama for his work in The Laguna Playhouse’s

April 2002 production of A. R. Gurney’s play “Far East.”
