The UC Irvine baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a

10-5 nonconference victory over San Diego State Friday at Tony Gwynn

Stadium.

The Aztecs (6-13) opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of

the first, but UCI (5-11) answered swiftly, bringing 10 batters to

the plate in the top of the second and tagging starter Mike Moat for

five runs on seven hits.

San Diego State narrowed the game to 5-4, but UCI extended its

lead with a run in the top of the fifth and two more runs in the

seventh.

UCI sophomore left-handed pitcher Glenn Swanson, who is originally

from the San Diego area, earned his first in of the season after

pitching five innings and giving up five runs (two earned) on two

hits and striking out two. Swanson, who was not recruited out of

Morse High, said he wanted to “stick it to” the Aztecs before the

season started.

UCI will face San Diego State today at 4 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark

in the second of a three-game series.
