Hewko gets top honor

Corona del Mar High senior Christina Hewko, who led the Sea Kings to

the CIF Southern Section Division II championship, has been named

Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player for the second straight

season.

Hewko is among eight CdM players recognized by league coaches,

including first-team honorees Danielle Carlson, Brittney Bowlus,

Daniela DiGiacomo and Camille Hewko.

CdM is represented on the second team by Brittany Fullen, Vivian

Liao and Jessica Harkins.

Christina Hewko, the CIF Division IV Player of the Year as a

junior, when she led the Sea Kings to their first Southern Section

title, scored 54 goals this season. Bound for Stanford, she was a

first-team All-PCL choice all four seasons as a prep.

Carlson, a senior still deciding between Princeton and UC Berkeley

for her collegialte future, scored a team-high 85 goals this season.

She also earned first-team all-league recognition all four years.

DiGiacomo, a senior who intends to play at Cal, is a repeat

first-team choice after earning second-team recognition as a

sophomore.

Bowlus, a UCLA-bound senior, scored 48 goals this season en route

to her second consecutive first-team designation.

Camille Hewko, a freshman, is part of the program’s future, as are

Fullen, a sophomore goalie, and Liao, a junior.

Harkins, a senior, is bound for Princeton.

CdM defeated Villa Park, 10-5, in the CIF title game to finish

26-5.
