Higgins records no-hitter in 2-0 win

In the second weekend of the 2003 season, Tim Higgins pitched the

first, complete game no-hitter for Huntington Valley Little League to

power the Pirates to a 2-0 Majors Division victory over the

Diamondbacks.

Higgins struck out 12 and walked four with one Diamondback hitter

reaching base on an error.

No Diamondback base runner advanced to second base in the game.

The Pirates gave Higgins room to work with a two-run first inning.

Sam Hunt started the game with a single and later scored on Alex

Talbert’s ground out. Higgins backed his pitching performance by

delivering an RBI single that scored Rick Marin.

Dallas Scott and Richard Levinson also singled for the Pirates.

Barry Luke and Devin Hands each gave solid pitching efforts for

the Diamondbacks.

In other games:

Angels 9, White Sox 2

Jake Augeri ripped three triples and finished with four RBI to

lead the Angels on offense.

John Olive also tripled in the win and combined pitching efforts

with Cody Johnson and Garrett Keadle to limit the White Sox to four

hits.

Jimmy Miller tripled in the first White Sox run and scored once

himself and Travis Hanley, Nick Refice and Chris Gillen each singled.

A’s 5, Dodgers 2

Race Parmenter pitched a complete-game victory with a two-hit,

14-strikeout performance. Nicholas Miller tripled, Michael Stroobant

doubled and Trevor Springman, Weston Stephens and Jonathan Miller

each singled.

Houston Hill doubled and Christian Slaton singled for the Dodgers.

In Minor A Division play:

Dodgers 13, Red Sox 6

The Dodgers came up with an 11-run first inning behind triples by

Taylor Nelson and Kurt Oshiro, doubles by Matt Stickler and Dane

Delany, and singles by Delany, Riley Trotter and Ryan Dobis.

Trotter, Delany and Dobis each singled later in the game and Brett

Hornstein tripled with an RBI.

Nelson and Kevin McDevitt each pitched three innings for the

Dodgers.

Lance Siegel and Austin Green doubled and Mike Mendel, Derek

McKusick and Sheldon Leong each singled for the Red Sox.

Reds 4, Padres 2

Aaron Angiano, Richard Varalla and Max Talbert combined to strike

out 11 for the Reds.

Jake Porter doubled in two runs, Angiano and Varalla each singled

with a walk and Garrett Thompson singled with an RBI to lead the Reds

on offense.

Franz Meyer and Josh Huffstetler, who each pitched three innings,

each doubled and scored once to lead the Padres.

Angels 10, Yankees 9

The Angels’ Sam Mikulak hit a two-run home run to tie the game in

the sixth inning and Jack Dilbeck’s fielder’s choice in the seventh

inning brought home Ty Barbo with the winning run.

Mikulak also doubled in the game, Austin Stephens singled twice

and Kyle Johnson and Jordan Herman each had hits.

Jake Provorse tripled and singled, AJ Libunao doubled and singled

twice, Jacob Millington singled twice and Tyler Vandeveer, Riley

Baggett and Daniel Uberin each singled for the Yankees.
