Police arrest child molestation suspect

Newport Beach Police on Friday arrested a 19-year-old San

Bernardino man on suspicion of committing lewd acts on a child under

14 years of age, officials said.

Officers stopped Albert Joshua Barragan at the corner of 43rd

Street and Balboa Boulevard suspecting a vehicle code violation, Lt.

John Klein said.

“They found a 14-year-old girl in the car and got suspicious after

questioning the suspect and the girl,” he said.

Officers learned the girl did not have permission from her parents

to be with Barragan and that Barragan had “committed lewd acts on the

girl” during their trip from San Bernardino to Newport Beach, Klein

said.

He is being held in Orange County jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail.

The girl was released to her parents, Klein said.

High-surf advisory in effect in Newport

A high-surf advisory has been issued for the Orange County coast

for all of today, said Noel Isla, a meteorologist for the National

Weather Service in San Diego.

“Waves are expected to reach 6 to 9 feet, and there may even be

occasional 11-foot sets,” he said.

The advisory went into effect on Monday. Winds are also expected

to gust at 25 mph, but no wind advisory has been issued for the area,

Isla said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol issued a gale warning

Monday after winds gusts reached 35 mph, officials said. A

small-craft advisory is also in effect.
