ICON GRACE SLICK AT FINGERHUT GALLERY

Rock ‘n’ roll icon Grace Slick will make an appearance at the

opening reception of her second exhibit at Fingerhut Gallery today

and tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. Slick’s work includes intense and

colorful portraits of rock icons such as Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin,

Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and more. The show will run through April

A TASTE OF WINE

ART CLASSES AT SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL

The Sawdust Art Festival will hold its annual Spring into Art

classes with professional artists teaching their skills. The classes

are both Saturday and Sunday of each weekend. Cost for the classes

range from $50 to $250 all materials and refreshments and catered

lunches. Adult classes are from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and one-day

children’s sessions are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register, call

LAGUNA HOMEGROWN SURF ART EXHIBIT OPENING

Today at 7 p.m., an exhibit themed Laguna Homegrown Surf Art will

open at the Surf Gallery at 911 South Coast Highway. Dennis McTighe

and other artists like Bill Ogden, John Chaney, Pat Tobin, Donita

Lloyd, Ryan Gourley, Frog, Sly Dog, Marcel and others will be on

ARTIST RECEPTION FOR BERNIE FUCHS AT RICHARD MACDONALDS

Today from 7 to 10 p.m. there will be an artist reception for

Bernie Fuchs at Richard MacDonald Fine Art Gallery. Fuchs visited

Italy for the first time in 1960 and, after falling in love with the

scenery, has returned many times. The paintings are built on Fuchs’

drawing skills, and his compelling use of shadow and light with work

features scenes from Venice to Palermo, Turin, Ravello, from the

hills of Rome to the Tuscan hills. The exhibit runs through March 28.

LATIN JAZZ AND DANCING

Romeo Cucina will feature Latin jazz and dancing with Ivan

‘SORDID LIVES’ WHITE TRASH PICNIC AT WOODY’S

Woody’s at the Beach and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment are

inviting the public to jon them in celebrating the DVD release of

“Sordid Lives,” a black comedy about white trash that has been a huge

success. The party will be held today from noon to 3 p.m. and

includes picnic food, soft and hard drinks, open mic entertainment,

karaoke and more.

A donation of $30 is needed to attend, or a bag of food equivalent

to $30 or both. All of the proceeds raised go to the AIDS Services

‘WHITENESS, A WAYWARD CONSTUCTION’ OPENS AT LAM WITH A LECTURE

The exhibit “Whiteness, A Wayward Construction” opens at the

Laguna Art Museum today and will through July 6. The exhibit is a

group exhibition of 28 individual artists and collaborative teams

working in various media, who explore representations of whiteness.

The underlying assumption of the exhibit is that everyone in the

United States is constructed in the political imagination as a racial

subject. There will be a lecture at 11 a.m. today by curator Tyler

Stallings and artists in Whiteness, A Wayward Construction will

discuss their work and the broader cultural study of whiteness.

COLOR IT ORANGE

Laguna College of Art and Design is sponsoring Color It Orange,

Orange County’s most extensive art exhibit by area students,

Kindergarten through 12th grade. The 29th annual juried student

exhibit is scheduled to have 600 pieces on exhibit including

drawings, paintings, sculpture, prints and photography. The exhibit

opens on Sunday and runs through April 2. The Laguna College of Art

LEONARD KAPLAN EXHIBIT AT LAGUNA ART MUSEUM

“Waking Dreams: The Art of Leonard Kaplan,” will run through July

6. The exhibit will include surrealistic drawings and mixed-media

‘LOVERS OF VERSAILLES’

Laguna Playhouse is presenting the U.S. premiere of the

bittersweet comedy, “Lovers of Versailles” by playwright Bernard

OUR TOWN IN THE EARLY 1900s

“Greetings from Laguna Beach: Our Town in the Early 1900s” just

opened at the Laguna Art Museum and will feature paintings,

photographs and memorabilia that chronicle life in Laguna Beach circa

1900 to 1930. The exhibit includes works by William Wendt, Joseph

Kleitsch, Clarence Hinkle, Edgar Payne and Anna Hills. In 1910,

Laguna’s population was around 300 and many of its residents were

writers, artists and musicians -- much like today. Featuring many of

Laguna Beach’s landmarks, past and present, it’s a vivid history of

‘FOOTLOOSE’

Laguna Beach performing arts department presents the Broadway

musical “Footloose” on March 27, 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m., March 30 at

directed by Mark Dressler, choreographed by Tod. A. Kubo, Roxana Ward

is the musical director and Wade Hendricks is the instrumental
