Lions take 7-1 victory
Vanguard University banged out 14 hits and played errorless defense
in posting a 7-1 nonconference baseball victory over visiting
Indiana-New Albany Monday.
Isaac Salazar wielded the heaviest bat for the Lions, going 4 for
5 and scoring twice.
Jason Searle and Jason Brunett were each 2 for 5 and Robert Cruz
was 2 for 4.
Searle and Andy Freeman, who had two RBIs, each doubled.
Searle got the victory after going five innings, allowing one
earned run, striking out five and walking just one. Matt Franco,
Robert Klein and Bishop Griggs combined to three-hit Indiana-New
Albany the rest of the way.
Mike Prestigiacomo went the distance for the Indiana nine,
allowing 14 hits and four earned runs. His defense committed seven
errors behind him.
Vanguard improved to 15-15, while Indiana-New Albany fell to 2-10.
The Lions are at Cal Baptist on Wednesday with the resumption of
Golden State Athletic Conference competition.
