The Corona del Mar High boys track and field team opened Pacific

Coast League action with a 100-36 victory over University, while the

Sea Kings’ girls squad lost to the league-defending champions, 77-59,

Thursday at CdM.

The CdM boys improved to 5-1 thanks to the efforts of juniors

Chris Ringstrom (200 and 400 meters) and Kevin Artz (800 and 1,600),

who both doubled. Sophomore Andrew Wong was prolific for the Sea

Kings, winning the long jump (18-6 1/2) and gaining second-place

points in the triple jump and pole vault as well as third-place

points in the 3,200, Coach Bill Sumner said.

Senior Mike Rudinica won the 3,200 (10:44), while senior Brian

LaPerle (100), junior Steven Minard (high jump) and sophomore Gordon

Yould (pole vault) also won their events.

LaPerle, along with senior Matt Morris, senior Blake Dillion and

Ringstrom won the 400 relay (44.3), while the county-best CdM 1,600

relay team of Artz, junior Brandon Borcoman, Dillion and Ringstrom

won in 3:31.2. The quartet’s best time is 3:30.9.

The CdM girls dropped to 4-2 on the season, yet won five of the 10

track events. Freshman Anne St. Geme doubled for the Sea Kings,

winning the 800 (2:26.1) and the 1,600 (5:26.2). CdM senior Becky

Cummins won the 3,200 (12:06) and junior Sara Claster won the 400

(1:00.6). Claster and St. Geme also teamed up to help CdM win the

1,600 relay, which also included freshman Kelly Morgan and sophomore

Melissa Swigert.
