VFW blanks American Legion

VFW produced three, first inning runs and took it from there last

weekend as they went on to post a 7-0 victory over American Legion in

Laguna Beach Little League Majors Division action at Riddle Field.

VFW pushed across four more runs in the fourth inning put the game

out of reach.

Gabe Stansbury finished with a hit and two RBI, Alex Shusko, Will

Armstrong and Casey Miller each had a hit and RBI, Mikey Rubel had an

RBI and Brian Yale and Wyatt Innins each walked and scored.

Stansbury also notched the pitching win, his first of the season.

He threw three innings of hitless, scoreless ball with seven

strikeouts.

Shusko followed with two scoreless inning and Miller finished the

game without allowing a hit or run in the sixth.

Brian Yale turned in two key outs for VFW, the first when he

gunned down a runner heading for home plate from the left-field foul

line, the second when he speared a hard liner at third for the final

out of the game.

Tyler MacRae, Spike Jackson, Kyle Snyder, Travis Woloson and Alec

Burk all played solid games for American Legion.

Hobies 4, VFW 2

Standout fielding and a sixth inning rally allowed the

Firefighters to pick up their initial win of the season and hand VFW

its first loss.

Brennen Mulvaney pitched the first three innings for the

Firefighters and allowed just one run while striking out four.

Mulvaney also had an RBI single in the early going.

The sixth inning rally included a single by Luke Lacy, double by

Spencer Freidenrich, a walk by Alex Sasaki and a two-RBI blast by

Adam Seleven.

Hobie Sports 10, Firefighters 7

Consecutive hits by Eli Viszolay, Cole Kennedy and Jackson Christy

produced four runs in the sixth inning as Hobie Sports broke a 6-6

tie and went on to post their third straight victory.

Viszolay and Dillon Pierce each went three for three and Matt

Moisen went two for three to lead Hobie Sports.

Alex Germano started on the mound for Hobie Sports and didn’t give

up a hit. Pierce finished the game and struck out four before

yielding a sixth inning double to Adam Selevean.

Seleven later scored to make the final, 10-7.

Michael Lewis had an outstanding game at shortstop for the

Firefighters.
