Washington St. unloads on plagued UCI team

ANTEATER BALLPARK -- Washington State University’s Cougars struck for

three runs in the first inning, scored two more in the second and

never trailed en route to an 8-4 nonconference baseball victory over

the UC Irvine Anteaters Friday night.

The Cougars unleased a 12-hit attack behind starter Tony Banaszak,

who went the distance, striking out five and walking two, while

allowing four earned runs for his first victory in seven decisions.

Jordan Szabo, Kyle Ryckebosch and B. J. Eucce all went 2 for 4

with a double for the Anteaters. Also with a two-bagger for UCI was

Matt Fisher.

Glenn Swanson started and took the loss, giving up 10 hits and

four earned runs in 42/3 innings. He fell to 1-4.

The second of the three-game series at Anteater Ballpark is

tonight at 6 p.m.
