Estancia drops the ball, 4-2

* SOFTBALL: A succession of errors in the third inning compounded

the Estancia High’s girls softball team’s attempt at its second

straight victory in Golden West League play Friday against host

Saddleback.

The Eagles committed four errors, two in the three-run Saddleback

second, and lost, 4-2.

An overthrow from third to first with one out began the Eagles

tumble. A Saddleback double put runners on second and third and

another miscue in the infield allowed two runs to score.

“We fell apart in that inning,” said Estancia Coach Marc Rodig.

The Eagles, trailing, 4-0, scored two runs in the fifth when Laura

Morton brought home Rebecca Kaplan and Larsen, who had both singled,

with a hit into right field. Morton was thrown out at first on the

play.

Chelsea Kaplan and Hilary Ockey also collected singles for the

Eagles (8-2, 1-1 in league), while Muriel Mason had four strikeouts

in the circle against Saddleback (2-0 in league).
