The Orange Coast College baseball team managed just five hits and

suffered a 6-2 Orange Empire Conference loss to visiting Santa Ana

Saturday.

Matt Lincoln, Santa Ana’s left-handed pitcher, allowed two runs on

four hits while striking out nine in eight innings of work. Lincoln

(7-0) was nearly perfect through the first six innings, facing just

two batters over the minimum after hitting Collin Stiltz with two

outs in the second inning and yielding a leadoff single to Ryan

Mathes in the fifth.

In the seventh inning, Lincoln showed his first signs of fatigue,

allowing back-to-back walks and a bloop single with one out. However,

Lincoln bore down, struck out the next batter and induced a ground

ball to get out of the inning.

The Pirates (12-13-1, 4-9 in the OEC) did all of their offensive

damage with one swing of the bat in the eighth inning. After a

one-out single by Tyler Shaffer, first baseman Kyle Stanley smacked

his first home run of the season, just over the 330 mark down the

right field line.

The Dons (20-8, 9-4) scored a pair of unearned runs in the second

and third innings off of Coast starter Jimmy Treece before Brett

Flowers provided the big blow with two outs in the fifth. With the

bases loaded, Flowers went the other way and cleared the bases with a

triple down the right-field line.

Treece (3-4) went six innings for the Pirates, allowing seven hits

and three earned runs to go along with three strikeouts. Jordan Hart

gave up one run in his lone inning of work before giving way to Jeff

Piaskowski, who tossed two perfect innings to close out the Dons.

Chris Weems and Jack Ryser each had two hits for the Dons with

Weems scoring twice and Ryser once to go along with one RBI.

OCC visits three-time defending state champion Riverside Tuesday

at 2 p.m.
