Tesoro no match for Corona del Mar
* The Corona del Mar High boys tennis team dropped only five games
in singles play and routed visiting Tesoro, 18-0, in Pacific Coast
League action Tuesday.
Garrett Snyder, Carsten Ball and Spencer Reitz swept in singles
play, helping the Sea Kings remain undefeated, 13-0, 2-0 in the PCL.
Tesoro dropped to 3-5, 0-2.

* Newport Harbor High boys tennis coach Jeff Thomsen gave his
reserves some playing time in Tuesday’s 14-4 Sea View League win over
visiting Laguna Hills.
Junior Bob D’Eliscu was sandwiched in between Tyler Deck’s two
singles victories while Jonathan Tweena won his singles match subbing
in for Charlie Farmer at No. 2 singles. Robert Khoury only lost one
game at No. 3 singles for Newport.
“Brandon Lutfy and Brian Hochwald played extremely well for us and
are shaping up to be our best doubles team,” Thomsen said.
Newport (6-2, 2-1 in league) travels to face Woodbridge Thursday
at 3 p.m.

Eagles just miss
* Estancia High’s boys tennis team made a strong comeback in
doubles Tuesday against visiting Ocean View in a Golden West League
match, but came up just short in the end.
The Seahawks and Eagles tied, 9-9, after play was completed,
meaning they had to go to games won to determine the outcome. Ocean
View edged Estancia in that department, 81-79.
After losing to Ocean View’s No. 1 doubles team, all three Eagles’
doubles teams of Louis Valdes-Chris Cacho, Chase Raymond-David Do and
Bryce McKendry-Oscar Nieves, each won the next two sets. Raymond and
Do won their final set, 7-5, to force the 9-9 deadlock.
Scott Braunsdorf, playing at No. 1 singles for Estancia (6-5, 3-3
in league), swept his three sets.

Mesa falls, 18-0
* Costa Mesa High’s boys tennis team proved no match for host
Saddleback Tuesday, dropping a Golden West League match, 18-0.
David Le, Mesa’s No. 1 singles player, got the closest to a
victory with a 6-4 decision in his first set. The Mustangs have yet
to record a victory this season and resume play Thursday when they
host Ocean View.

* Orange Coast College women’s tennis team didn’t lose any steam
over the weekend after clinching the Orange Empire Conference
championship last week. The host Pirates strolled through conference
