Reds come back, 13-8

The Reds erased a 6-4 third-inning deficit to earn the victory over

the Yankees, 13-8, in six innings in Newport Beach Little League

Majors division play.

Michael Borchard collected two hits, two RBIs and had two runs

scored with Sean Tokuyama and Will Morrow each tallying one hit with

two RBIs and two runs scored.

Borchard and Joe Frey combined to strike out six Yankees combined

while Brent Weinberger pitched solidly for the Yankees.

Matt Morris, Eric Morris, Weinberger, John Christian and Nico

Napolitano each hit well for the Yankees.

In other Reds action from last week:

* Reds 6, Mariners 3

Frey, Tokuyama and Borchard all pitched for the Reds in the

victory, while the offense was led by Matt Fay, Evan McNerney,

Tokuyama and Borchard.

Parker Werline gave up two runs in three innings for the Mariners.

Shortstop Nick Freeman displayed strong defense and offense along

with Werline, William Hart and John Doering.

* Reds 12, Giants 4

McNerney and Borchard each threw well on the mound for the Reds,

who received solid defense from Joey Booth, Mattias Russo-Larsson and

Morrow.

Kevin Wang led the way on offense with timely hitting and

aggressive base running.

Patrick Vorwerck pitched well for the Giants while the offense was

led by Jerry Kazmierzak, Scott Cook and Zak Mauer-Erickson.

Kazmierzak blasted a two-run homer over the right-field fence.

In NBLL AAA action:

* Diamondbacks 9, Braves 6

The Diamondbacks used back-to-back four-run innings to come back

from a four-run deficit.

Trailing, 5-1, after three innings, the D-backs began their

offensive assault to get within 6-5. A walk to Austin Barvin in the

bottom of the fourth inning set up Blake Miller’s double to tie the

score and Cort Hastings followed that with a single to bring in the

go-ahead run.

The D-backs also got hits from Paxton O’Brien, Trent Boras,

Chandler Mitchell and a key double by Edward Burgner.

The Braves were led in hitting by Dylan Pievac, Austin Allen,

Clark Cashion and Chris Ebner. Miller threw three innings for the

D-backs, allowing only one run.

* D-backs 16, Cardinals 4

The D-backs sandwiched six hits around several Cardinal walks to

produce 16 runs.

Miller, Hastings, Sandon Griffin, Mitchell, Zach Haber and Edward

Burgner all hit for the D-backs, while Barvin and Rodney Keller each

made solid defensive plays to help the D-backs improve to 7-2.

Max Carpenter belted a two-run home run and George Kennedy added a

base hit for the Cardinals.

* Yankees 16, Giants 14

The Yankees’ offensive display was led by Tanner Trauthen’s home

run along with contributions from Michael Haeri and Preston Risser,

who both delivered multiple hits.

Bryce Ashton came on in the bottom of the sixth inning with the

bases loaded and struck out the final batter to preserve the win.

Nick Gooding, Trevor McGhie and Jack Murphy anchored the defense

and Patrick Pearson also made a solid catch on a foul ball.

Graeme Fraser and Risser combined to strike out eight batters and

limited the Giants to six hits.

* Dodgers 10, Yankees 9

Pearson and Risser struck out eight Dodgers while allowing only

six hits in the loss.

Ashton and Risser each hit home runs to lead the Yankees’

offensive attack while Eric Frazier and Jeremy Fox provided solid

defense.

* Yankees 14, Cardinals 14 The Yankees’ offense was powered by a two-run triple by Risser and

a double by Benny Townsend.

Ashton, Trauthen, Gooding and Fraser combined to strike out nine

batters and was helped on defense by Murphy and McGhie.

* Cubs 7, Cardinals 6

The Cubs edged out the Cardinals by one run after trailing by six

in the second inning.

In the bottom of the last inning, Zac Cabin hit a towering fly

ball that fell in and Gaughan had a swinging bunt that drove Cabin in

for the winning run.

Reid Johnson allowed no runs and struck out the side in the third

and Connor Gaughan pitched three scoreless innings to hold the Cards

at bay.

David Silverberg had two hits and three RBIs while Johnson also

tallied one hit.

The Cubs’ defense threw out two runners at home and received

strong individual plays from Anthony Francisco, Evan Daniel, Alex

Grody, Parker Seaman and Collin McNerney.

The Cards received strong pitching from George Kennedy, Ryan

Grable and Peter Markel, who belted a three-run home run and a

double.

The Cardinals also got base hits from Max Carpenter, Randall

Mycorn and Grable along with a double from Kennedy.

Max Stecca made an unassisted double play for the Cardinals, who

got strong contributions from Jimmy Roney, Carpenter and David Fink.
