Woodbridge tops Newport

* Woodbridge High’s boys golf team continued its undefeated season

with a 188-211 victory over Sea View League foe Newport Harbor

Wednesday on the par-36 Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course.

Davis Pemstein led Newport with a 39, followed by a 41 from Rhett

Palmer and a 43 by Michael Vackar. Brandon Sowers and Michael

Benvenuti each shot 44 for Newport (3-4, 1-2 in league) which resumes

play against Villa Park today at Big Canyon Country Club in a

nonleague match.

Chargers outduel Pirates

* Orange Coast College freshman David Kendall shot 3-over-par 71

to earn medalist honors, but host Cypress prevailed, 384-398, in an

Orange Empire Conference men’s golf match Wednesday at Cypress Golf

Course.

Kelly Wicks (76), Ryan Peaslee (82), Jared Bruce (83) and Shawn

Vickers (83) also scored for the Pirates (11-7, 7-7 in conference).
