Villasenor, Braun earn scholarship award
Seniors Natalie Villasenor and Billy Braun have been named the
female and male recipients of the 2003 Harry W. Montague Basketball
Memorial Award and Scholarship at Edison High, the school announced
this week.
Villasenor has been with Edison’s girls’ basketball program for
four years, received the Captain’s Award and is a First Team
All-Sunset League pick.
Braun played four years in the boys’ basketball program, playing
varsity for three years.
Both student athletes, each of whom do volunteer work within the
community, will receive a $500 scholarship.
Each year the award committee seeks out one male, one female,
senior within the Edison basketball programs who most exemplifies
values such as extra effort, sense of team work and desire for
personal growth, both on and off the court.
The annual award is given in memory of Montague, the director of
Edison Community Center and originator of Huntington Beach Parks and
Recreation basketball program.
Montague died from injuries sustained in a 1988 bicycle accident.
