Slammers defend title

Ranked No. 1 in the nation for the last nine months, the Slammers

girls under-13 Gold soccer team defended its California State Cup

Club title with a 2-0 victory over the Surf from San Diego.

The Slammers, based in Newport Beach and coached by Walid Khoury,

beat the best teams in the state over the three-week tournament.

They now advance to the Western Regional Championships, where they

will defend that title as well. The regionals will be held in Hawaii

June 20-28 and will include state champions from 12 western states.

Team members include: Justyne Freud, Camille Levin, Taylor Jones,

Carrie Kuwata, Ashtin Larkin, Ashley Owens, Tori Rocke, Tray Tiao,

Chelsea Gomez, Tiana Dickson, MacKenzie Orand, Allison MacDonald,

Precious Henderson, Ally Oday, Marisol Rosas and Maribel Soliorio.
