* BASEBALL: Sophomore left-hander Kyle Allen struck out a

school-record 18 batters to lead Orange Coast College to a 4-1 Orange

Empire Conference baseball victory over visiting Riverside Thursday.

“That was by far the best game I’ve ever pitched,” said Allen, who

scattered seven hits en route to his fourth complete game of the

season.

“Strikeout wise, that was by far the most dominating performance

since I’ve been here,” said 11th-year OCC Coach John Altobelli, whose

team (13-14-1, 5-10 in the OEC) snapped a five-game losing streak.

Allen, a 6-foot, 190-pound sophomore, struck out seven in the

first three innings, walked just one and threw 140 pitches.

Kyle Stanley led OCC offensively, going 3 for 4 with a double and

two RBIs. Mivah Hazen was 2 for 3 and scored twice.

Kyle Blumenthal’s inside-the-park home run spoiled Allen’s shutout

bid.

Riverside fell to 26-5, 12-3.
