Lions split pair
Vanguard University’s softball team split with host Chapman
University Friday in nonconference play, Vanguard holding Chapman off
in the opener, 5-4, then dropping a 9-6 decision in the nightcap.
Celina Camarillo got the victory in the opener after seeing
Chapman score four runs in the final two innings.
Jill Ramsey’s two-run home run in the third inning proved to the
difference.
Ashley Mauro and Ramsey were each 2 for 2.
Rachel Rolle was 3 for 4 and Jill Jeranko was 2 for 4 for Vanguard
in the nightcap, but it was all Chapman, which led, 9-2, through six
innings before Vanguard’s four-run seventh.
Vanguard is now 21-14-1. Chapman is 23-7.
Vanguard hosts Cal Baptist of Riverside today with a doubleheader,
starting at noon.
