At its Monday meeting, the Harbor Mesa Lions will present its yearly

donations, more than $8,000, to many community charitable

organizations.

Those organizations include: the Westside Boys and Girls Club,

Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, SOS Free Medical and Dental Clinic, the

Orange Coast College Child Care Center, the Orange Coast Interfaith

Shelter, the Estancia Baseball Boosters, Youth Employment Services,

the School Box Supply Project for Whittier School, City of Hope, the

Sight and Hearing Foundation, Teen Recognition, Project L.O.O.K., the

Lions Wilderness Camp, Pediatric Diabetes, Lions Project Canine

Companions, Women Helping Women, the Student Speakers Foundation,

Spencer’s Treasures and the Lion’s Rose Parade Float.

During the year, Harbor Mesa Lions have also given support to

Ronald McDonald House by donating time to make meals for families of

hospitalized children. They have presented a Flag Day program at

Whittier School and have contributed clothing to help women in crisis

through the Women Helping Women organization. They have also

collected Christmas gifts and food for a needy family and helped

children wrap their Christmas gifts at the Boys and Girls Club of the

Harbor Area Westside Branch.

Money distributed at the Monday meeting has been raised by several

events held during the year, including a casino night, bingo night, a

spaghetti dinner and a chili roundup. The meeting is held at 6:30

p.m. at the Costa Mesa Country Club.

CINCO DE MAYO

GOLF TOURNAMENT

On May 5, 140 golfers will tee off in the seventh annual Newport

Irvine Rotary golf tournament at the Newport Country Club. The event

is the club’s major fund-raiser, with a goal of $35,000 to provide

community college scholarships, plus aid to the Olive Crest Home for

abused children, school athletic programs and international service

projects.

The day’s program will feature 18 holes of golf, a putting

contest, lunch and a banquet dinner. A silent auction will be

highlighted by Marriott Hotel Corporation’s donation of an $8,000

golf/street cart.

Rotarians are eligible to compete for the Burnham Cup, a trophy

and a $2,000 college scholarship named for Keith Burnham, a prominent

Rotarian who was the district governor when the Newport Irvine Club

was founded.

The public is invited to golf as well, for a fee of $250 per

golfer. The putting contest begins at 9 a.m. At the end of the

tournament, cocktails and dinner at 5:30 p.m. Individuals and

business groups may participate as players, tournament sponsors or

program advertisers. Registration and additional information is

available at www.nirotary.org.

ROTARY FACILITIES COMPUTER DONATION

Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club has arranged a donation of 30
