D’backs rough up A’s

The Diamondbacks scored five, first inning runs and recorded 11 hits

overall in scoring a 15-0 shutout of the A’s in Huntington Valley

Little League Majors Division play this week.

Back-to-back triples by Matt Reza and Tanner Phillips triggered

the five-run first inning with key singles recorded by Mike

Pellegrino and Trevor Carberry.

After they upped their advantage to 6-0 in the second inning, the

D-backs produced nine runs in the third inning to put the game away.

Singles by Carberry, Ben Hunt, Luke Holler and Rob Toth and a two-run

double by Barry Luke, keyed the outburst.

Luke and Phillips teamed up on the mound to shut down the A’s,

allowing two hits while striking out six overall.

Race Parmenter and Jacob Guzman had the A’s hits.

In other games:

Angels 5, Dodgers 3

John Olive went three for three with three RBI and Wade Carden

doubled to lead an eight-hit attack by the Angels.

Olive also threw a strong three innings of relief by striking out

nine.

The Angels also got hits from Dillon Petrarca, Jake Gordon and

Jake Augeri.

Houston Hill, Christian Slaton, Stuart Chenier, Nick Gialenes and

Jared Gilbert all singled for the Dodgers.

Pirates 8, White Sox 4

Alex Talbert had an RBI double, Richard Levinson and Ryan Hakes

delivered consecutive doubles and Nick Mazzone hit a two-RBI triple

as the Pirates rallied from a 3-0 deficit.

Tim Higgins added an RBI single and Huntington Hardesty an RBI

double to the Pirates’ cause.

Chris Gillen and Nick Refice singled for the White Sox.

Diamondbacks 8, A’s 4

Rob Toth’s three-run home run in the ninth inning sent the D-backs

on to victory in the longest played Majors Division game of the

season.

Matt Reza had an RBI double, Barry Luke singled and stole home and

Tanner Phillips had an RBI double for the D-backs.

Weston Stephens and Nick Miller each had an RBI single and Trevor

Springman doubled and scored for the A’s.

Angels 13, Dodgers 5

Angel bats again were productive as they produced 13 runs on 14

hits.

Doubles went to Jullian Herrera, Jake Augeri, John Olive and Wade

Carden and Dillon Petrarca and Garrett Keadle each had two hits.

Stuart Chenier’s double was the only extra bases hit by the

Dodgers.

Pirates 16, White Sox 1

Nick Mazzone and Tim Higgins combined to one-hit the White Sox,

allowing a first inning triple to Jimmy Miller.

Mazzone struck out six and Higgins had five strikeouts.

Mazzone also starred on offense with a pair of doubles in a

Pirates’ attack that featured two singles and three RBI by Zack

Michael, a two-RBI single by Brian Corder, triples by Higgins and

Dallas Scott and an Alex Talbert double.

Sox pitcher Nick Refice gave a solid, three-inning performance by

allowing the Pirates just one run on two hits.

In Ocean View Little League Majors play:

A’s 5, Twins 3

Hayden Toney singled three times with three RBI, Sean Guite

doubled twice with an RBI and Bryan Harnden doubled with an RBI to

pace the A’s on offense.

Andrew Bynum and Guite shared pitching duties and was back by a

defense that included key strops by centerfielder Matt McWilliams.

McWilliams, David Swartz and Shaun Dolan all singled for the

Twins.
