Daily Pilot Editor Tony Dodero has been named editorial director of

Times Community News, a division of the Los Angeles Times that

publishes six community papers in Southern California.

Dodero, who has nearly 15 years of newspaper experience, began his

reporting career at the Pilot. He also has worked as a community

correspondent for the former Southeast Edition of the Los Angeles

Times and as news editor of the Long Beach Press Telegram.

Within Times Community News, Dodero, 41, has held several editing

positions, including city editor, assistant managing editor and

senior editor. He has won awards for his reporting and editing.

In his new position, Dodero will manage editorial operations for

all six newspapers and their Web sites.

“I’m very happy about putting Tony in this slot,” said Thomas H.

Johnson, publisher of the Pilot and general manager of Times

Community News. “We have worked together for 12 years and I have

watched him develop into a strong editor and leader. He will ensure

editorial consistency throughout TCN and bring in many new ideas and

policies.”

Dodero, an adjunct professor of journalism at Orange Coast

College, will continue to oversee the daily editorial operations at

the Pilot with Managing Editor S.J. Cahn and City Editor James Meier.

“My goal is to unite the community news division under one

umbrella and continue to produce award-winning local news that is a

great complement to the Los Angeles Times and its regional, national

and international focus,” Dodero said.
