the Golden West League with a 15-5, 15-1, 15-6 victory over host

Coach Tracey Heims’ Eagles improved to 12-2, 8-0 in league.

Estancia will compete in the Chaparral High Tournament in Las Vegas

during the spring break weekend. Heims said the tournament, which

starts Monday and ends Tuesday, will be at three different sites and

will included 48 schools that will be seeded into 12 different pools.

Mesa goes down in four

* Costa Mesa High boys volleyball coach Dave Sorrells said his

Mustangs played their best match of the season, despite losing in

four games to Golden West League visitor Ocean View Friday.

The Seahawks (12-5, 6-1 in league) defeated Costa Mesa, 15-6,

15-6, 13-15, 15-6. The Mustangs (1-12, 0-7) were led by junior Mitch

Mandel and freshman Ryan Bagwell who had seven kills each.

Sorrells also noted his two sophomore middle blockers, Gabriel

Gonzalez and Garrett Walthers, played well, collecting two and four

stuff blocks, respectively.

Sage Hill falls in three

* Junior outside hitters Kevin Joyce and Macsun Frederick had 17

and 16 kills, respectively, for Sage Hill School, but host Pasadena

Poly swept the Lightning, 15-12, 16-14, 15-13, in an Academy League

boys volleyball match Friday.

Sage Hill, which opened the season 6-0, fell to 7-4, 5-4 in

league. The Lightning will take the next two weeks off.

“We’re working on becoming a steady team,” Sage Hill Coach Merja

Connolly said. “We’ve been up and down ... we’re learning a lesson

that you have to play steady to win. We’ve been having a problem with

mental errors.”
