Costa Mesa High senior Sharon Day, who led the Mustangs to a share of

the CIF Southern Section Division III girls soccer championship, tops

a list of nine local girls players voted All-CIF by section coaches.

Day, a midfielder who led the Mustangs with 29 goals and 34

assists, is the Offensive Player of the Year in Division III. Bound

for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, she finished her four-year varsity

career with 83 goals and 71 assists. Day, a second-team All-CIF

choice as a junior, was joined on the Division III first team by

senior teammate Devin Denman and Costa Mesa sophomore Nilani Duarte.

Seniors Paige Janes and Alivia Mazura represent Corona del Mar on

the Division II first team.

The Division III second team includes Costa Mesa sophomore Jenny

Sparks and freshman teammate Jasmin Day.

Four-time All-CIF honoree Elisha Morgan represents CdM on the

Division II second team, while CdM senior Jenny Long is a third-team

Denman, a sweeper on a defense that allowed just 15 goals in 26

games, was also a four-year starter for Mesa. Denman’s decisively

aggressive play in the championship game helped preserve the shutout

for the Mustangs.

Duarte, also a defender, was a stabilizing force on the back line,

while Sparks and Jasmin Day added to the firepower that helped the

Mustangs (22-1-3) score 105 goals.

Sparks scored four of her 27 goals in the playoffs, while the

younger Day tallied three of her 24 goals in the postseason, despite

missing the second-round game with a sore ankle.

Janes, a first-team All-CIF Division IV selection last year after

earning third-team All-CIF recognition as a sophomore, was a

dominating defensive presence for the Sea Kings, who advanced to the

Division II quarterfinals, before falling to Canyon of Canyon

Country.

Mazura, a forward, was a second-team honoree in Division IV last

season.

Morgan, a senior midfielder, finishes off the rare four-peat as an

All-CIF designee. She was a first-team pick in Division IV as a

freshman and sophomore, then recovered from knee surgery before her

junior season to earn second-team laurels.

Long, a midfielder, was a second-team All-CIF pick as a junior.

Janes, Mazura, Morgan and Long all helped CdM win three straight

Pacific Coast League titles and advance to the CIF Division IV

semifinals from 2000-02.

CdM finished 12-6-2.
