Hoag stag shoot will be held May 7

It is almost time for Hoag Hospital Foundation’s 552 Club Stag

Shoot, which will once again honor the late Dave Martyn, the event’s

co-founder, hospital supporter and respected physician.

Last year, the Martyn family raised $70,000 by donating Dave

Martyn’s hunting mementos for auction. Another auction will be held

this year to raise money to benefit Hoag Women’s Pavilion.

The community is invited to donate hunting, shooting and fishing

collectibles, including wildlife art and bronzes for this year’s

auction. The 552 Club Stag Shoot auction will be held May 7 at the

Prado Olympic Shooting Sports Park.

The committee is also asking for donations of frequent flier

mileage for airline ties to be used in conjunction with other awards.

The Stag Shoot is a 22-year tradition that has raised more than $1

million for the hospital.

Imagination Celebration runs through May 24

Invisible friends. Daring swordfights. Far off magical places.

The boundless imagination of children is being celebrated for the

next six weeks, through May 24, during the Imagination Celebration of

Orange County.

Celebration officials are promoting more of that colorful thinking

and will host art events aimed at children during this year’s event.

Although it is a countywide event, many of the festivities take

place at arts venues in Costa Mesa, festival officials said.

Seven of the 65 festival events are scheduled at area malls,

schools, museums and theaters. Other events are in 17 other cities

throughout the county. Most events are free of charge or a minimal

fee.

The first Imagination Celebration Spring Festival was in 1985. It

ran two days and offered five events.

Over the years, the celebration has picked up steam. Last year,

the event ran 16 days, with 57 events. Almost 1 million people --

half of them children -- partook in those events.

Officials this year have set a new benchmark, as the festival will

run six weeks -- more than double the number of days from last year

-- and feature eight more events.
