Oilers tee off today in South Carolina

The Huntington Beach High boys’ golf team is in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

today to compete at the Palmetto High School Golf Championships.

The Oilers are among 112 high school teams nationwide competing at

the three-day, 54-hole event, which will use a college-style

tournament format.

In today’s competition, teams will play a qualifying round that

will be used to flight each squad. Teams will then compete for the

36-hole championship within their flight.

In addition to the team competition, medals will be awarded to the

top individual performers in each flight.

Nine of Myrtle Beach’s premiere golf courses will host the

competition.

“This is one of the largest high school golf tournaments in

America and it gives teams the unique opportunity to test themselves

against their peers from other parts of the country,” said Steve

Mays, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director.
