Man arrested for armed robberies

A man was arrested after two attempted armed robberies in one

night in Huntington Beach.

David Sylve, 42, is being held in the Central Jail Complex in

Santa Ana on $250,000 bail.

Sylve is suspected of accosted a man and woman with a knife as

they sat parked on Riverbend Drive at 1:12 a.m. April 9.

With a knife to the woman’s throat, a robber demanded the man’s

wallet, but the man fought him off, sustaining only a small cut to

his right knee, and the robber fled without the wallet, Huntington

Beach Police Sgt. Douglas Tallman said.

The couple described their attacker to police, who began searching

the area.

Within minutes, the same man allegedly threatened another woman

with a knife, forced her to her vehicle nearby, demanded cash, credit

cards and jewelry and fled in a white pickup truck toward Beach

Boulevard.

At about 1:30 a.m., Sylve was spotted in a small white Mitsubishi

pickup truck in Long Beach and stopped. Officers found a knife and

jewelry from the second robbery in his possession.

He was positively identified by victims, taken into custody and

put into the Huntington Beach Police Department jail overnight.

Senior volunteers given badges

Twelve 12 senior volunteers have been presented with badges,

bringing the number of volunteers in the city’s Retired Senior

Volunteer Program to 65.

All 12 completed their 16 hours of training during the last

several weeks. Police Chief Kenneth Small presented them with the

badges at an awards ceremony on Thursday.

The Retired Volunteer Program was created 10 years ago. Members of

the program perform vacation checks, staff the substations and help

with various tasks at the police station. In the past 10 years, the

seniors have volunteered more than 154,700 hours.
