Sea Kings product Hansen honored

* COLLEGE MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: Stanford redshirt sophomore setter Kevin

Hansen, a product of Corona del Mar High, has been named the Mountain

Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week.

Hansen led Stanford to road victories over Pacific, UCLA and UC

Irvine last week. He set the Cardinal to a combined .357 team hitting

percentage in the three matches, and had 143 assists, 25 digs and

eight blocks.

The fourth-ranked Cardinal (17-11, 14-8) opens MPSF playoff action

against UC Irvine on Saturday night at 7:00 at Burnham Pavilion.

This is the third time, and second time in a row, that a Cardinal

has earned MPSF Player of the Week honors this season.

Stafford takes fifth

* TRACK AND FIELD: UC Irvine senior Jessica Stafford placed fifth

and junior Annmarie Turpin finished sixth in their section of the

California Invitational Heptathlon that concluded Thursday at Azusa

Pacific University.

Stafford compiled a total of 4,915 points and Turpin had 4,904.

Fionna Asigbee of Missouri finished first with 5,151 points.

In the three events Thursday, Stafford went 16-5 1/4 in the long

jump, threw the javelin 127-8 and ran the 800 meters in 2:22.12.

Turpin recorded marks of 17-6 1/4 in the long jump, 109-5 in the

javelin throw and 2:37.75 in the 800.

Sage Hill finishes SVC

* BASEBALL: Tim Wilkins singled with one out to deliver the

game-winning RBI in the ninth inning of a game concluded from March

18, leading the Sage Hill School baseball team to a 6-5 nonleague win

over visiting Saddleback Valley Christian Thursday.

The March 18 action ended in a 5-5 tie after eight innings, as

Sage Hill scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to send the

game into extra innings.

Jordan Salinger, who scored the game-winning run, reached on a

three-base error for the Lightning in the bottom of the ninth.

Sage Hill (7-5) will play at noon today against Liberty Christian

in the consolation semifinal of the Sage Hill Spring Classic. If the

Lightning win it will advance to the consolation final at 3 p.m.

Coast clinches second

* VOLLEYBALL: Orange Coast College’s men’s volleyball team came

back from a 2-0 deficit to beat host Irvine Valley, 29-31, 26-30,

30-28, 30-22, 15-11, in an Orange Empire Conference match Wednesday

night.

The win gives OCC (16-6, 11-5 in the OEC) a second-place finish in

the conference behind champion Golden West.

Poyer Poia led the Pirates with 21 kills and Dane Gillian added

16.

Levi Luster tallied six solo blocks and two assisted blocks

alongside nine digs apiece by Kaione Scott and Matt Skolnik.

Coast beat IVC (12-8, 9-7) in four games in the first meeting

earlier this season.

Coast advances to a Southern California Regional final, hosting El

Camino Tuesday at 7 p.m.
