Sylvia is a longhaired, gray, spayed cat. At 9 years old, she

qualifies to be placed through the Newport Beach-based Community

Animal Network’s “Pets for Seniors” Program. The program pays for a

lifetime of the animal’s vet medical care, and places senior pets in

senior homes.

“We want this program to encourage seniors to adopt senior

animals; it is the right thing for them to do,” network founder

DiAnna Pfaff-Martin said.

The network offers a 30-day health guarantee and open hearts to

help find homes for older pets, she said.

“Senior pets are at risk of being put to death at shelters and

even by humane groups that claim no one wants them,” Pfaff-Martin

said.

Donations are always needed to keep adoption programs going, help

pay for vet bills and give supportive care to animals, she said.
