Hurdler, hammer thrower set marks

Larry Wade, competing for sports management group HSI, won the

110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.39, the fastest mark by an

American this season, to highlight the action that unfolded at the

Steve Scott Track and Field Invitational at Anteater Stadium

Saturday.

In the women’s hammer throw, Lisa Messepeka, competing unattached,

set a stadium record with a mark of 223 feet, 11 inches, breaking the

previous mark of 217-9 by Kirsten Mucchow in 2000.

UC Irvine placed first in both 3,000-meter steeplechase events as

senior Travis Morisoli won with a career-best time of 9:17.37 and

junior Jenny Liou won the women’s race in 11:04.26. Senior Jessica

Stafford won the high jump with a mark of 5-5.

UCI sophomore Kaleena Yee finished second in the 5,000 meters with

a time of 18:27.19 and senior teammate Lisa Massoth was fourth in

18:43.36. Sophomore Erin Curtis finished third in the pole vault at

12-0 and she was sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.97. Senior

Wendy Chan was fourth in the 1,500 meters in 4:34.28 and sophomore

Suzanne Purmort finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of

2:13.45.

Junior Lauren Adams placed fifth in the 400 meters (57.09) and

sophomore Amber Nefas was eighth in 58.05. Anteater senior Lina

Pimentel was fifth overall in the 400 hurdles with a time of 62.76.

UCI junior Michael Wong finished third in the long jump at 22-5,

junior J.J. Stein was fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of

189-4 and sophomore Patrick Grogan was fifth in the triple jump at

47-10.

Sophomore Scott Jarvis was fourth overall in the 400-meter hurdles

with a time of 54.01 and sophomore Kenny Vinh was fifth in the 110

high hurdles in 15.05.

Freshman Tom Whelan finished fifth in the 1,500 meters in 3:53.50.

Both Anteater teams compete in the Occidental College Invitational

May 10.
