Motorcyclist dies in collision

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car on Superior

Avenue at Ticonderoga Street in Newport Beach on Saturday.

An investigation was underway Saturday afternoon. The name of the

victim, a 38-year-old Latino, was not released by Saturday evening.

“Fault is unclear,” Newport Beach Police Sgt. Thomas Fischbacher

said. “Speed may be a factor, but that hasn’t been determined yet.”

The accident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The

motorcycle was traveling northbound on Superior from Coast Highway as

a 1978 Lincoln sedan driven by a 72-year-old man was traveling

southbound, Traffic Investigator Mark Fisher said.

The vehicles collided as the sedan was turning left onto

Ticonderoga.

No one has been arrested, charged or cited, Fisher said.

Driver arrested after striking jogger

An Irvine woman was arrested Saturday morning on charges of felony

DUI after she struck and injured a jogger.

Julia Maria Nash, 55, was being held on $25,000 bail Saturday

afternoon after striking and hitting a 49-year-old woman who was

jogging near the intersection of Eastbluff Drive and Vista del Oro at

8:15 a.m.

Police did not release the name of the victim, who was taken to

Western Medical Center for treatment.

Boys with BB gun draw several cop cars

A call of a possible armed conflict at the intersection of Irvine

Avenue and 17th Street ended without incident after several Costa

Mesa police units arrived to find two minors armed only with a BB

gun.

Police received a call shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday from a

resident who reported seeing two teenage boys in the parking lot of a

Blockbuster Video, one of whom appeared to be aiming a gun at the

other.

Numerous police cruisers arrived on scene, and the boys were taken

into custody pending their release to their parents. No shots were

fired and no one was hurt, police said.
