Red Sox steal victory from Dodgers

Danny Moskovits stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning with

the game-winning run for the Red Sox against the Dodgers in Newport

Harbor Baseball Association Bronco Division (ages 11-12) action.

Adding to the Red Sox’ offense were Daniel Norris and Alex Rios.

Norris went 1 for 3 with a run scored and Rios also scored once with

an RBI.

The Red Sox were led on defense by third baseman Andrew Taylor and

second baseman Trevor Noon.

Moskovits also pitched three no-hit innings, striking out eight.

He went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and four stolen bases.

Kyle Lawrence pitched three shutout innings and Nick Svendsen

closed out the game with six strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings while adding

a double and a run scored.

In other Bronco action:

* Angels 4, Yankees 3

The Angels made the most out of five hits and produced the

victory.

Angel pitchers Ned Lyon, Michael Razzano and Blake Davey held the

Yankee offense to only four hits.

Garrett Morgan doubled twice and drove in the game-winning run in

the bottom of the seventh inning with a line-drive shot to

right-center field.

Grady Kough, Christian Anderson and Spencer Martinez also

contributed key base hits for the Angels.

The Angel infield recorded a key double play in the fifth inning

to erase a potential Yankee rally and Kough and Jake Manning each

made catches in the outfield to preserve the lead.

Josh Harris pitched three scoreless innings for the Yankees.

In Mustang play (ages 9-10):

* Astros 10, Cubs 9

Aaron White hit a two-out single in the top of the sixth inning to

score Brennan Callahan with the winning run for the Astros.

The Cubs had scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on Austin

Rios’ third double of the game to tie the score.

Callahan went 4 for 4 with five runs scored while Austin Metzger

blanked the Cubs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the save for

Coner Sweeny, who pitched three strong innings.

Rios struck out six of nine Astro batters he faced while Parker

Eddy and Nicholas Dedinsky also collected hits for the Cubs.

* Rangers 4, A’s 0

The Rangers got key hits from Jake Stowell, Bradley Courier,

Charlie Massingill and Tyler Kiehnle against a tough A’s pitching

staff to post the shutout.

Ryan Davis and Michael Salam each had RBIs.

Angelo Angelides struck out nine of 10 Ranger batters while Blair

Luchs fanned seven A’s in a pitcher’s duel.

Cousins Kristian and Jason Wooding battled one another on the

mound for the final three innings. Kristian struck out six A’s.

Sam Kwock recorded an unassisted double play as well as the third

putout in the fourth inning to quel an A’s rally.

In previous Pony action:

* Newport Harbor River Dogs 10, Costa Mesa Giants 0

Nathan Todd struck out 11 in five innings to pitch a no-hitter in

a 10-0 victory for the Newport Harbor River Dogs over the visiting

Costa Mesa Giants in Newport Harbor Baseball Association Pony

Baseball play.

Todd also helped his cause at the plate, blasting a three-run home

run to power the River Dogs’ offense. He walked only four, two after

the first inning.

Michael Tagard singled twice in four at-bats and collected three

RBIs while Jackson Massingill singled home two.

Peter Hapke went 1 for 2 with an RBI and Brett Adams added two

singles and a double. Spencer Smith doubled in two at-bats.

In Pinto play (ages 7-8):

* The Red Sox were led by Quinci Holgate and Andrew Chase, who

each continued their strong hitting.

Martin Jr. Najera and Austin Smith helped with some sound

defensive plays.

Timothy McGetrick, Estevan Muniz and Robert Alexander also played

well for the Red Sox.

In Shetland National play (age 6):

* The Cubs and Giants dueled at Newport Heights.

Keola Kanaeholo threw out four runners at first base and had a

solid hit to the shortstop and Alex Fuller caught a fly ball at

second base for an out. Fuller also singled to right.

Pitcher Julien Marchese caught a fly ball and tagged a runner out

at home for a double play.

John Smith added to sharp hits to center field.

* Cory Kennedy brought home Harrison Vandervort with a

bases-loaded hit for the Phillies as the coaches pitched to the

players.

Outfielders Joey Faris and Griffin Sharp were both strong

defensively.

Liam Ogburn and Matt Valeriano teamed for the first putout.
