Estancia lets it slip away

Estancia High’s softball team limited host Ocean View to one hit

Wednesday. Problem was, the Eagles couldn’t score more than three

runs as the Seahawks ended the game with a run in the seventh inning

to secure a 3-2 Golden West League victory.

The Seahawks’ final run came across on an Estancia error in the

seventh, one of five committed by the Eagles.

Hilary Ockey and Rebecca Kaplan scored Estancia’s two runs. In the

fifth, Kaplan grounded to third as Estancia’s Be Diep became caught

in a rundown between third and home. Alertly, Kaplan advanced to

second and when the throw sailed into center field, she came around

to score.

Diep, a freshman, singled up the middle for her first hit of the

season and stole second and third before Kaplan’s run.

Sophomore Hillary Larsen went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (10-11, 2-10

in league), who got a complete game from starter Evelyn Flores.

Flores tallied five strikeouts.
