Covering events like the Balboa Island Art Walk is always fun. You

really can’t plan out what kind of photo you’re going to get.

Going there I knew I had only a short time to get a picture and

move on to my next assignment. So my game plan was simple: Just walk

through the sea of people scanning for anyone or anything that

uniquely said art festival.

It wasn’t long before I saw this little dog -- Josie, a 9-year-old

Jack Russell terrier -- perched on the sea wall next to its owners

art work. It was enough to capture my attention, so I stopped to have

a look.

The dog standing near a pot of flowers next to the painting kind

of plays a visual trick on the eye. It’s like life is imitating art.

The duplicate images of the flowers, real and painted, along with the

texture of the painting and the dog’s coat all tie in to make a fun

picture.
