Johansson gets his 100th win

Mattias Johansson celebrated his 100th win as the men’s tennis coach

at Vanguard University during his team’s recent Florida road trip.

Johansson, a native of Sweden, is in his seventh year as the Vanguard

men’s tennis coach, and third year as the school’s women’s tennis

coach.

The tennis program at Vanguard University has found success during

Johansson’s time at the helm. The men’s team has qualified for the

NAIA National Tournament six of the past seven years, and finished as

high as No. 3 in the nation in 2000. Johansson has accumulated a .658

winning percentage coaching the Vanguard men as they enter the

National Tournament, which starts Monday.

Prior to coaching, Johansson was Vanguard’s No. 1 singles player for two seasons, recording a 41-18 record for the Lions. He earned a

bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science and another B.A. in

business administration at Vanguard. He also earned a master’s degree

in business at National University.

In addition to his coaching duties, Johannson is an adjunct

teacher in the exercise sports science department at Vanguard.

Johansson’s men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in the NAIA

National Tournament this month in Peachtree City, Ga.
