Five Feet takes first step in postseason play

Five Feet took its first step toward a possible AAA Division

postseason tournament title by holding off Coldwell Banker, 10-7, in

playoff action at Riddle Field.

Five Feet found itself in a 4-1 hole before rallying to victory.

A six-run second inning did the trick.

Brian Vail began the rally with a single and was followed by a

Drew Wheeler single. That set the stage for Alex Iannotti who

promptly doubled to score both Vail and Wheeler to bring Five Feet

within 4-3.

Walks by Rex Strombotne, Charlie Jackson, Riley Lozano and Vail

forced in two more runs as Five Feet grabbed its first lead, then

Evan Steinhoff’s bloop single that dropped down the first base line

scored the inning’s final two runs as Five Feet went on top, 7-4.

Coldwell Banker came up with a two-run fourth inning to narrow the

gap to 7-6 but Five Feet responded by scoring three runs in the

fifth.

Tylan King drew a walk and scored on Vail’s triple. Vail, in turn,

scored on Wheeler’s sacrifice fly and Iannotti, who singled, ended up

scoring on a passed ball for a 10-6 lead.

Coldwell Banker scored one more run in the sixth.

Strombotne had an RBI single and Iannotti doubled in the opening

inning for Five Feet.

Vail withstood several rallies by Coldwell Banker to go the

distance for Five Feet.

SG Roofing 7, Laguna Police 4

Jake Glazer’s three-hit pitching effort keyed SG Roofing’s

triumph.

SG Roofing took the lead for good in the top of the third inning.

Tied at 1-1, Michael Seal walked and moved to third on Sammy

Witte’s single. The two went on to score when Michael Hyden doubled

to right field to give SG Roofing a 3-1 lead.

They stretched their advantage to 5-1 in the fourth when Glazer

hit a leadoff double and scored on an Alex Gromet single and Jase

Swinden’s two-out single scored Gromet.

In the SG Roofing fifth, Witte walked before Glazer and Gromet

each picked up RBI singles to move the lead to 7-1.

The Laguna Police didn’t quit, however, and came up with a sixth

inning rally to make things interesting.

Derek Knott, John Barnett and Austin Paxson all reached base and

went on to score to draw the Police within 7-4.

Glazer, however, settled and struck out three batters to bring his

strikeout total to 12, as SG Roofing held on.

Witte had given SG Roofing a 1-0 first inning lead when he walked

and two outs later, scored on a passed ball.

The Police tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning as

Paxson scored on Sam Wellsby’s single to centerfield.

Paxson pitched a strong game for the Police. He recorded five

strikeouts in the first two innings and shut down SG Roofing in order

in the second inning.

Quiksilver 13, Team Nolan 5 Taylor Preston hit a bases-clearing triple in the first inning and

Quiksilver never looked back.

Alex Bekken hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the second

inning and tripled and Alex Loechner hit an inside-the-park homer in

the fourth for Quiksilver.

Jake Johnson singled twice, Preston added a double and Bradley

Barnes and Connor Hyland each reached base three times.

Barnes scored two runs.

Austin Hillman singled and scored in the opening inning and Remy

Zona, Travis Sampson, John Gavin and Ben Hanson all singled during a

fourth inning rally that saw Team Nolan pull to within 8-5.

In AA Division playoff action:

Oysters 11, Crane 3

The Oysters scored three, first inning runs and opened up an

eventual 9-0 lead in the first-round playoff game.

Singles by Teague Hamilton, Preston Grand Pre’ and Warren Abbate,

followed by a deep double by Nathan Thomas, produced the Oyster’s

first three runs.

The Oysters posted another run in the second inning when Jack

Garcia singled home Morgan Lebby.

Trailing, 9-0, Crane scored its three runs on hits by Avery Crowl,

Kristian Rieckoff, Alexander Davis and Ricky De La Torre in the

fourth inning.

Grand Pre’ and Barret Thornton held Crane scoreless through the

first three innings.

Bryan Ludloff struck out the side in the sixth to close out the

game.
