Walking on eggshells

OK, so it’s not eggactly a five-star eatery.

But we are more than just a little boiled over that one of our

favorite breakfast hangouts, the Omelette Parlor, has gone the way of

Kona Lanes.

No more of those home-style spuds and hefty omelets with thick

pieces of ham and cheese. No more omelets with such local names like

Mrs. Beecher’s Delight, Estancia Rediscovered and the Performing Arts

Center.

It’s too bad that more and more of the local hometown haunts that

make Newport-Mesa a special place are slowly being removed from the

menu. The Omelette Parlor was one of those places. A place where the

coffee cup is never empty, the conversation is lively and the food

comforts the soul as well as the stomach.

We need more Omelette Parlors, not less, and it is equally

troublesome that the popular eatery became the victim of a big

business decision made by the Vons food store chain.

Thanks to owner Susan Adkins for making this place so good for so

long. And here’s hoping that another eatery fills the void.

Let’s get scrambling to make that happen.
