Gil Coerper, Huntington Beach city councilman; Lynette Hibbet,

Miss Huntington Beach 2003; June Dugmore, executive director, Miss

Huntington Beach Scholarship Pageant; and Mike Bolt, hockey hall of

famer, each shared a moment with the National Hockey League’s

perpetual championship trophy known as the Stanley Cup while it was

on display at Pier Plaza in Downtown Huntington Beach. The trophy was

in Southern California as part of the Mighty Ducks quest for the

championship ... Ashlee Ann Phillips of Huntington Beach graduated

with a bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science from Wake

Forest University on May 19, in a ceremony presided over by New York

City Mayor Michael Bloomberg ... Todd G. Lewis of Huntington Beach

was recently conferred the degree of doctor of podiatric medicine

from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. Lewis was

one of only 82 graduates this year ... Anna Abatzglou of Huntington

Beach graduated from the University of Portland with a bachelor’s

degree in global business ... Jennifer Varrone of Huntington Beach

graduated from Quincy University with a bachelor’s degree ... Sarah

Klein of Huntington Beach, daughter of Bill Klein and Carol Klein of

Huntington Beach, has earned the highest honor at the Hebrew Academy

Graduation being selected the Valedictorian of the senior class.

Other graduates included: Aliza Fried, Liat Kdoshim, Chani Kracoff,

Saul Arthur Leven, Jeffrey Samule Perlin and Neda Zargari ... Dan

Olson of Huntington Beach was awarded the YMCA’s prestigious

Chairman’s Distinguished Service Award ... Marine Corps Cpl. Conrad

B. Griego, III, son of Angela K. Clitherow of Huntington, recently

returned from a nine-month deployment while assigned to the 24th

Marine Expeditionary Unit and will be shipping back out soon with

Marine Crops 1st Lt. Randall L. Horner, brother of Derek J. Horner of

Huntington Beach, on the USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group while

assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp

Lejeune, N.C. Their unit has been on a routine overseas deployment

since August 2002 participating in exercises and operations in

Djibouti, Kosovo, Kenya, the Arabian Gulf and Iraq ...
