For the second year in a row, father Gordon and son Scott Davis will

be playing Joe and son Joe Zerboni for the senior division

championship of the ninth annual United States Tennis Association

national father and son doubles championships at Newport Beach Tennis

Club.

The top-seed Davis duo stormed to today’s 12:30 p.m. final against

the second-seeded team with two victories in straight sets Saturday.

Scott is NBTC’s director of tennis and a Corona del Mar resident. The

Davises have won the last two senior division titles, which include

fathers ages 60 and older.

In the super senior division (fathers ages 70 and older),

returning 2002 champion Larry Huebner along with son Jim from

Northern California will face the third-seeded duo of Ron and Dave

Tonidandel from Sarasota, Fla., and Seattle beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Larry and Jim won the title together in 2001.

Ohio’s Jack and Darrin Heinz will play for third place against

Theodore and Aleco Preovolos beginning at 9 a.m. in the senior

division while Tom and Tim Burke from Minnesota will face John and

Chris Dundas, from San Marino and Torrance, respectively.

Jim and Jim Settles (Laguna Niguel and La Canada) will play in the

semifinals of the consolation bracket in the super senior division

for a shot at fifth place. The semifinals of both divisions will

begin at 9 a.m. with the finals at noon.
